Outreach

The Outreach Team go out in the evenings to places such as bus and railway stations where homeless old people are known to sleep. The team supply clothes and blankets as well as food, and will help in any way possible. Sometimes they are asked to provide medical help, in which case they admit the elderly person to the Care Home for treatment.

Jacob's is always on call to help an elderly person found ill or injured on the street.

Government Hospital is the only free hospital in the area, and facilities are very basic. The hospital expects patients to be accompanied by a friend or family member who must stay to care for them and to buy their food and medicines. There are no nurses to do this and food is not provided. Jacob's provides full time attenders at the hospital to fulfil these needs for homeless elderly and sick patients who otherwise would have no-one to nurse them.
