Outreach

The Outreach Project

Jacob’s exists to help old people who are in need. There are many homeless or destitute elderly people who do not need, or want, to be admitted to the Care Centre for shelter and medical treatment. The Outreach workers go out to the wider community and are willing to give a helping hand wherever and however they can.

Every day the Team take food out to those who need it. The two main areas we supply are four leprosy centres, and a temple in the city where those in need go to collect a daily meal.

As the team go out on to the streets of the city the name of Jacob’s becomes known, and we often get calls reporting an elderly person lying at the roadside, or about someone who is living in very dire circumstances. Jacob’s is always on call to help an elderly person found ill or injured on the street.

Viji and her team are becoming practised at tracing families of relatives who over the years have lost touch with their homes, and we try very hard to ensure that any resident at the Care Centre has someone from their past with whom they can keep in touch.
